Uqiyyah

An Islamic measure of weight (also, awqiyyah; in Arabic script أوقية) that is equal to 8 mithqal (mathaqeel) or 40 dirhams. According to Hanafis, an uqiyyah approximately weights 200.8 grams. This version of uqiyyah is known as uqiyyah shar’eyyah (الأوقية الشرعية) as it was used in Makkah (Mecca) at the advent of Islam and thereafter.

As a rule of thumb, the exact weight of uqiyyah varies according to the type of material being weighted: in except of cases other than gold and silver, an uqiyyah weights 40 dirhams (equivalent to 127 grams). For gold, it is equal to 29.75 grams and for silver 119 grams.
