Qafeez

An Islamic weight measurement unit that is equivalent to 12 sa’a or 24.48 kg (or 8 makakeek/ 64 ratls). Furthermore, three qafeezes (aqfizah or qufzan) are equal to one wasaq.

Qafeez is also an area measurement unit that is equivalent to 144 zhiraa (or one tenth of a jareeb/ or 136.6 square meter.)

Qafeez al-tahhan (i.e., qafeez of a miller) is an impermissible exchange transaction in which a person presents to a miller an amount of wheat (raw grains) for grinding against a ratl of flour made out of it. In other words, the wage/ ujrah of the miller for grinding is one ratl (a pound or 450 gr) of the ground wheat (flour).
