The stock of a publicly-traded company whose business concentrates on gold exploration, mining, or production. Gold stocks are a popular method for investors who want to take positions in physical gold. Gold stocks typically have a levered effect in their correlation with, and reaction to, the price of gold (i.e., they are more volatile investments than underlying gold). In other words, when the price of gold rises, gold stocks often experience much larger gains relative to the gold price. This stock must not be confused with owning or trading in the futures price of gold as a commodity.
