The stock of a publicly-held company that is traded on the over-the-counter bulletin board (OTCBB) system. In principle, bulletin board stocks are neither required to adhere to the same reporting requirements as companies that trade on the organized exchanges, nor to a minimum level of trading volume. Nevertheless, they are required to file financial reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or other self-regulatory organizations (SRO). A bulletin board stock is typically assigned the “.OB” suffix on its stock symbol. For instance, WXYZ.OB is the symbol for WXYZ (a hypothetical firm), which is traded on the OTC market.
