Double Witching Week

The week that begins on Monday prior to the Saturday expiration of any two classes of option contracts. The week leading up to options expirations can experience noticeable volatility because option holders hasten to exercise their options before the closing bell on Friday afternoon. Options not exercised by that time will expire worthless, leading to losses to the option holder.
