Arabic (تربص) for waiting and tarrying for an opportunity. This involves refraining from certain actions or being actionless for some period of time in expectation of something more favorable or desirable in the future. Tarabbus is exercised by a person unable to decide which course of action he/she should follow or choose and therefore remains actionless and waits to consider possible alternatives. It is also exercised by an expectant trader (al-mutarabbis) who anticipates receiving higher prices for his assets (property, commodities, etc.) in the future and therefore keeps them held in his possession/stores in anticipation of price increase.
