A room or extra space that was added to the blue room (of the New York Stock Exchange) to provide more area for traders and market participants, in order to account for added volume. The blue room was a relatively small trading room on the floor of the exchange adjacent to the main trading room and contains three posts.
The blue room was expanded in 1988 to accommodate increased trading activity. At that time it became known as the extended blue room. The “blue room” and the “extended blue room” – known for their deep blue walls – were closed down (2007) and floor brokers and specialists moved into the remaining two rooms – the “garage” and the “main room,” without impact on volume processed during a trading day.
