An option on a stock index futures which gives the purchaser the right, without the obligation, to trade the underlying futures at a given strike price on or before a specific expiration date. A holder of this option must open a futures brokerage account in order to trade the underlying futures. Like ordinary options, which fall into calls and puts, stock index futures options are mainly classified as: stock index futures calls and stock index futures puts.
