A stock that is issued by a company with a market capitalization of more than $2 billion and less than $10 billion. This stock is less risky than a small-cap stock, but is riskier than a large-cap stock. Mid-cap stocks are usually issued by medium-size companies (mid-cap companies). In many cases, these stocks are either small caps that are moving to an upper status (on their way to being large caps) or large caps that are losing their status (on their way to being small-caps).
Mid-cap stock is a short form for middle-capitalization stock or medium-capitalization stock.
